What is a Freedom of a town?

The right of Freedom of Entry is an ancient privilege and allows a Regiment to parade through the City with ‘Full Ceremonial’. It comes from a period in our history when only trusted units would be allowed to carry arms within city boundaries.

Freedom of Winchester

The Rifles Collection will be open on Saturday 8 July as The Rifles are handed The Freedom of Winchester from The Royal Green Jackets, one of their forming Regiments.

The museum will also be at the celebrations at Sir John Moore Barracks in Winchester that day.
